Welcome to the Northfield Fastpitch Softball Association Website

We are a non profit organization focused on growing the girls fastpitch softball program in Northfield.

We offer a traveling league for competitive players in the spring/summer and for a brief 6 week season in the fall.

5v5v5 Registration Open

The Northfield Fastpitch Softball Association want to see players back on the field. With social distancing in mind, our association will offer a 5v5v5 program during the month of July and possibly into August. Games and practices will be played during weekday evenings. Players will be placed on teams based on age and skill level.

What’s 5v5v5?

  • A game consists of three (3) teams competing against each other in a 5 innings game.
  • Each team plays defense for two-thirds of an inning (nine outs) and shall bat five times.
  • An "Infield Team" and an "Outfield Team" play defense. While the "Batting Team" takes their turn at bat.
  • All three teams rotate positions for one cycle (nine outs) to complete one inning.
  • The winning team is the team that scores the most runs (of course).
  • Other than the three-team format, normal age appropriate fastpitch softball rules apply.
  • Each team will have a coach who will assign positions, batting order and substitution decisions

For more details see the 5v5v5 Rules and Guidelines document below.

The fee will be $25 cash or check only to cover field and insurance costs. The NFSA will collect payment the first evening of play.

Registration for the 2020 summer travel softball season has closed.  Check back for fall ball registration in July.

Please email if you have questions or concerns.

  • 16U: 1/1/03 - 12/31/04    = $325
  • 14U: 1/1/05 - 12/31/06    = $325

*Financial assistance is available through the Northfield Youth Sports Collaborative. Please contact the Northfield Community Action Center to access a scholarship.

Parents will need to submit a check for the $150 Volunteer Fee, per player, at the first coach’s meeting. Families must complete 6 volunteer hours, per player. Once the 6 hours are completed, the check will be destroyed. If a family chooses not to complete the 6 hours, the check will be cashed by July 31st. Volunteer hours can be completed by family members 18 years of age and older.  Players are welcome to help with concession stand shift but may not work alone.

Custom jerseys will be provided for players to keep at the end of the season. Participants need to provide socks, black pants, helmet with chin strap/cage, and glove.  Fielding masks are not required, but are highly recommended for safety.

The NFSA will provide funding for up to two tournaments per team. The Tri County State Qualifier Tournament and the State Tournament are also included in the registration fee.

  • Equal playing time in not guaranteed. Over the course of the regular season, each player will get a fair and ample amount of playing time. Coaches have the authority to limit playing time if a player has absences from games and/or practice.
  • If a player is going to miss any game or practice, the player or a family member must notify the coach in advance. Failure to do so may result in a loss of playing time.
  • The State Qualifier and State Tournaments follow strict ASA rules which restrict substitutions on the line-up card. These rules may result in reduced playing time for some players as the coaches use their best judgement to field the most competitive team.

COVID-19 Update: Summer travel season canceled

The Northfield Fastpitch Softball Association Board has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 summer travel season. The decision to do such was based on three main factors:

  1. Northfield teams will not have access to Rock Fields until July per the school district.
  2. With current events being as they are, the Minnesota Department of Health has been slow to provide clear guidance and a timeline regarding game and tournament play creating uncertainty that makes planning difficult at best.
  3. The board has concerns that the Minnesota Softball plan to return to play does not adequately address safety concerns expressed by our families on a recent survey. The NFSA’s top priority continues to be the health and safety of our players, coaches, umpires and families.

Refund Information

The Northfield Fastpitch Softball Association will hand out refund checks and jerseys from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23rd at Rock Fields. If those hours don’t work for you, please email to make arrangements for pick up.

Several families have generously offered to donate their spring registration fee to the NFSA. Thank you!  If you’d like to donate yours just let Andy Hauskins know at pick up and he will shred your check. Please don’t feel obligated to donate though.

The NFSA will refund registration less a $40 cancellation fee. The fee covers the cost of the jersey and processing fees. Refunds amounts are as follows: $285 for 14U and 12U; $235 for 10U; and $185 for 8U.

The NFSA will cover other pre-season costs that have already been incurred.

In the meantime, there are many things you can do as parents to keep your children active, and to keep them building their skills. There is a plethora of online tools, drills, videos and programs, many that are free, that provide solo instruction as well as ways you as a parent can assist. There are some resources available on the Coaches and Clinic webpage.
