Players can request their favorite number. Player numbers will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis determined by the registration submission time stamp. Register early to get the number you want!
Team Placement
NFSA teams compete as part of the Tri-County League and Minnesota Softball. As such, we create teams based on their criteria through a tryout process. It’s our goal to have teams at multiple levels at each age group, so that players can gain experience at an appropriate level of competition.
Age requirements are determined by MN Softball. See the MN Softball Age Calculator for more information: Age Calculator | Minnesota Softball (mnsoftball.com). Our evaluators do their best to place players where they will have the most success individually and as a team. See more information on Minnesota Softball team classifications.
The NFSA will not refund registration fees after the tryout process except in the case of serious injury or other life-altering circumstances.
Age Level Information
8U - $225 per player. Click for League Information
The primary focus of 8U Traveling is to build softball fundamentals, skill development and love for the game. Tryouts will be held to introduce players to the process and place players on a team best suited to their skill level.
Teams play a league game schedule (weeknights), plus two (2) weekend tournaments and a State Tournament.
League games consist of single games on Wednesdays starting early May around the metro area. The last two league games will be doubleheaders. Plan to practice and/or play league games two or three nights per week. Weather can necessitate some schedule changes.
8U is a machine pitch league so players will not pitch during games; however, it is strongly encouraged that every player try pitching during practices.

Volunteer Hours
Volunteering is essential to any youth organization, your dedication will help make this a successful season for our kids. The NFSA requires a commitment of 8 hours of volunteer work (DIBS) per household. Families will submit a check for the $400 Volunteer Fee before their player(s) will be issued their jersey(s). Once the hours are completed, the check will be destroyed. If you do not feel your family will be able to fulfill the DIBs requirement, there will be a buyout option available during registration.
Volunteer hours can be completed by player's family members (18 years of age and older) and players are welcome to help with but may not work alone AND will not count towards volunteer hours. Volunteers who want to work a shift together need to sign up for the dibs shift separately.
Primary ways to fulfill volunteer hours:
Complete field prep and cleanup for weeknight home games (training will be provided)
Operate the concessions stand for weeknight home games for NHS and NFSA games.
Complete either task for the association’s tournament weekends. We highly encourage families of players who will have home tournaments to complete at least a portion of their hours during the tournament weekends.
Traveling Coaches Application
We’re always looking for volunteer parent coaches to teach, guide and share their love of the game with our youth players. For our older teams, we strive to have non-parent paid coaches. If you have experience as a softball player or a coach, we’d love to invite you to express your interest. Those interested should apply below.
Please send any questions or concerns to admin@northfieldfastpitch.org.
*If you are notified that you have been chosen to coach, you will be required to complete a background check and safe sport training. The NFSA will cover associated costs. Specific direction on how to complete this training will be given at the time that coaching assignments are announced.
